David and Bathsheba

Liner Notes

Alfred Newman composed a number of scores with religious or spiritual themes, and this was among his very best. It contains one of my all-time favorite settings of Scripture: “The 23rd Psalm,” which I love in its a capella version here, and his instrumental version created for a 1960 album. (I’m listening to it now as I write this, and I keep thinking that someone should revive this piece for live performance.)
