Contributing to “Soundstage L.A.” as Disney Hall opens

It was an honor to be asked to consult on the program for the third “opening night” of Disney Hall, and to write the program notes for this landmark evening in downtown L.A. Performing King Kong from the Morgan-Stromberg reconstruction of Steiner’s score, I’m happy to say, was my idea. So was showcasing the incredible acoustics of the hall by doing Herrmann’s On Dangerous Ground and Goldsmith’s Planet of the Apes. Here is a commentary I wrote about the experience (which Marilee cleverly headlined “How the West Was Won”). Incidentally, we sat with David Raksin while the Los Angeles Philharmonic played his music from Laura.
